We will start the evening with hors d'oeuvres and an ample opportunity to network. This year's Fireside Chat will feature, Ruud Dobber, Ph.D., Executive Vice President and President, BioPharmaceuticals Business Unit of AstraZeneca and moderated by, Philip Amoa, Partner at McCarter & English, LLP. Also featured will be videos of teams "igniting and innovating" bioscience in the First State. A sample of last year's videos is available below. The evening will be capped off with a deluxe coffee bar and mini dessert stations; providing another opportunity to network.
Ruud was appointed Executive Vice-President, BioPharmaceuticals Business Unit in January 2019 and is responsible for product strategy and commercial delivery for Cardiovascular, Renal & Metabolism (CVRM) and Respiratory diseases. Prior to this, Ruud held the role of EVP, North America since August 2016. Ruud joined Astra in 1997 and has held various senior commercial and leadership roles, including as EVP, Europe, Regional Vice-President of AstraZeneca’s European, Middle East and African division, Regional Vice-President for the Asia Pacific region and Interim Executive Vice-President, Global Product and Portfolio Strategy.
Ruud was a member of the Board and Executive Committee of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) and was previously Chairman of the Asia division of Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America.
Holding a doctorate in immunology from the University of Leiden in the Netherlands, Ruud began his career as a scientist, researching in the field of immunology and aging.
Philip D. Amoa is a partner at McCarter & English, LLP, where he provides cutting-edge representation for domestic and international companies in a broad range of industries, including manufacturing, technology, life science, financial and business services, with a focus on venture capital and private equity, mergers and acquisitions, and Delaware corporate and alternative entity law matters. He is the founder of the firm’s Delaware Corporate, LLC, and Partnership Law practice where he provides clients with critical guidance on governance issues, including fiduciary duties, risk oversight, conflicts of interest, board and committee structure, and special committee investigations. Philip often contributes insights on strategic decision-making in commercial arrangements and litigation to leading publications. He is co-author of Bloomberg BNA’s Corporate Practice Portfolio Series on Limited Partnerships as well as the author of Practical Law Company’s primary resource on corporate law in Pennsylvania.
Philip is an independent director of The Board of Pensions of the Presbyterian Church (USA), a faith-based health insurer and $10 billion pension fund. He is the Chair of the Governance Committee and serves on the Executive, Investment, and Legal Committees of the board. He previously founded and served as CEO of Legal Summer, LLC, an online technology company that connected summer associates and interns with internships and fulltime legal jobs.
Philip serves on the Community Advisory Board of WHYY, where he chaired its Governance Committee. He has also served in numerous board roles with other non-profit organizations, including serving as the secretary of Delaware BioScience Association, a nonprofit company that serves the bioscience industry in Delaware and the region. He is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) and has earned the designation of NACD Governance Fellow. Philip was named to Philadelphia Business Journal’s “2019 40 Under 40 Awards” list of up-and-coming leaders as well as the Philadelphia Bar Association’s 2019 “Business Law Section [Rising] Giant of the Business Bar” list of legal giants who have significantly influenced business law. Most recently, Philip was selected for the National Bar Association’s Top 40 Under 40—Nation’s Best Advocates Class of 2019–2020.

DELAWARE BIO EVENT POLICIES
Cancellations of registration must be made in writing, via e-mail, two weeks prior to the event (no later than Wednesday, May 1, 2019) to receive a refund, minus 25% for registration/administrative costs. If the cancellation is made within two weeks of the event or the attendee is a no-show, Delaware Bio will not issue a refund. Please note that if you have registered to pay by check, your payment must be received by the day of the event Wednesday, May 15.
