Air Liquide Research and Development is seeking a Bioprocess Development Scientist to be located in Newark, DE. The successful candidate will be part of the Life Sciences group and work on bioprocess development in mammalian cells. S/he will contribute to the development and optimization of robust bioprocesses and support technical transfer to customer. Strong technical, organizational, and communication skills, a “can-do” attitude, as well as the ability to develop creative solutions to challenging problems, are essential.

Job responsibilities include:
• Provide technical expertise in designing and conducting experiments, analyzing data and documenting procedures and results to meet R&D deliverables towards the development and optimization of upstream processes using mammalian cells
• Work closely with internal market groups, industry partners, and customers. Perform technology transfer of R&D projects to customers
• Contribute to maintaining group awareness of relevant scientific literature, trends and technologies in the bioprocessing area
• Serve as a safety role model, maintain high safety standards and promote improvements

Job Requirements:
• Advanced scientific degree in chemical engineering, bioengineering, or a related field, with at least 2 years of direct experience for Ph.D., or > 6 years for M.S.
• Excellent knowledge and hands-on experience operating and designing cell culture processes in benchtop scale bioreactors
• Proven ability to troubleshoot equipment problems with a strong mechanical aptitude
• Excellent knowledge of upstream bioprocessing equipment at development and pilot scales
• Strong understanding of cellular physiology and metabolism
• Forward-thinking and able to lead and contribute to scientific/technical discussions
• Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to keep thorough written records in a lab notebook or batch record
• Basic computer software skills including MS Office and Google Platforms
• Ability to work in a team
• Theoretical knowledge and experience in statistical experimental design (DOE) and analysis is desired
• Experience with intracellular pathway and bioprocess modeling a plus
• Theoretical knowledge and working experience with methods for analysis of metabolites and/or proteins will be a plus
• Strong command of English language, both verbal and written

• Ability to lift 20 lb
• Some weekend work required
