Delaware BioScience Association Accepting Applications for 2017 STEM Educator Grant
NEWARK, DE.— (Jan. 10, 2017) The Delaware BioScience Association, a 501(c)(6) nonprofit, privately funded, membership-based organization announced today that applications are now being accepted from Delaware educators (grades 6-12) in a district or charter school for the organization’s 2017 STEM Educator Grants.
Established in 2016, the STEM Educator Grants fund classroom programs and activities which engage students in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). Currently, the total grant pool is valued at $8,000, with individual grant awards expected to range from hundreds of dollars to a maximum of $2,000.
“Delaware Bio’s Board of Directors and members recognize the importance of providing students with opportunities to explore the exciting industries and careers offered through STEM, and is proud to support the education sector through our STEM Educator Grant,” said Delaware Bio President, Bob Dayton.
Proposals that incorporate the following components are of the greatest interest:
- Program or activity increases awareness of STEM-related professions
- Teaches STEM-centered skills and/or knowledge
- Demonstrates real-life application of STEM-centered skills and/or knowledge
- Encourages interest in STEM fields of study
- Program or activity can be replicated for or by other educators
- Proposals with an emphasis on biotechnology will be given extra consideration
Applications and a letter of support from the school’s administration must be submitted by mail, email, or fax by January 27, 2017, and must include the applicant’s signature. Grant recipients will be notified by late March 2017.
